The Brackenfell High School rejuvenation project is one of the most exciting initiatives currently underway in our office – a visionary, multi-year transformation aimed at elevating the school’s environment and strengthening its connection to the community it serves. Rooted in the idea of fostering new traditions and meaningful interaction, the concept celebrates the school’s unique architectural character while creating contemporary spaces that inspire learning, engagement, and pride.
A number of buildings across the campus will undergo strategic upgrades designed to cultivate a refreshed school culture. One of the key additions is a revitalized sports club integrated with a vibrant new cafeteria – an inviting daily hub for students, parents, and the broader community. This space not only supports sporting events by providing comfortable viewing areas, but also acts as a multifunctional social anchor where learners can gather before, during, and after school.
Courtyard spaces will be reimagined to introduce soft, landscaped vistas between buildings, replacing hard surfaces with calming green pockets. These areas will become essential breakout zones that encourage interaction, reflection, and relaxation, enriching both academic and social life on campus.
To ensure the redesign truly reflects the needs and aspirations of its users, we conducted a series of affinity sessions with staff and students, allowing their voices to play a vital role in shaping the future of their school. As a team of two, we collaborated across multiple facets of the project to form a holistic understanding of the school’s dynamics and deliver thoughtful, future-forward architectural solutions.
